Episode 189: Thanksgiving, Sipping Jordan and Wino Radar

Episode 189: Thanksgiving, Sipping Jordan & Wino Radar Attitude of Gratitude

The Wine Two Five ladies are serving up gratitude in a glass this week, as well as some Wino Radar edutainment finds. We also managed to finally open the wines from Jordan that were sent to us last year, and they are drinking so fine. And with that we raise our glasses to all our listeners. We will return next week with burning wine questions! Cheers ~

In the Glasses (1:27)

These wines were sent to us last year when we recorded Episode 120 with Lisa Mattson from Jordan Winery. The plan was to taste them together, you know, in the same room, but this is as close as we could get.

Val
Jordan Cabernet

2013 Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California

Mini Factoid: Jordan only makes two wines. Cabernet and Chardonnay.

They do have a partnership with a Champagne house as well, but their Jordan Cuvee is, indeed, a champagne from, you guessed it, Champagne.

Steph (3:06)

Steph's Jordan Chard

2015 Jordan Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California. When you hear her description you’ll see why we should just rename this wine, “Namaste Chardonnay.”

Some good Jordan Juju (5:23)

However, let’s start at the very beginning. Winemaker Rob Davis has made every bottle of Jordan wine since 1976. He’s the longest-tenured winemaker in Sonoma County.Rob Davis, Steph Davis

I went to two schools to learn about winemaking,” Davis says. “The school at Davis and the school of André Tchelistcheff.”

A very good place to start!

Steph actually got to meet Rob Davis at a Society of Wine Educators Conference in 2017.

Notice a “Davis” theme here?

Also, since we were loving all over his wines this week, we figured you may love this great three minute video with Davis. We mean Rob Davis.

Rob Davis talks about his college days at UC Davis and joining Jordan Winery as a harvest intern for the inaugural 1976 vintage of Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon….

#W25Challenge Update (8:08)

Our friend Lynn in Bordeux, and of the Savor the Harvest blog, got herself some fun, funky bubbly from Puglia made with the Maresco grape. This is a white grape formerly known as Maruggio.

Please check out her blog on this one if you’d like to read further about Synergy in the Salento.

And you know you do.

Wino Radar (9:38)

Did you know Jack Maxwell, known as the Booze Traveler from the Travel Channel, has his own podcast called “I Don’t Drink Alone with Jack Maxwell?” We didn’t, we do now, and we likey!

One Bourbon, One Chard, or One Beer

For your additional drinking and grooving pleasure, we would like you to roll on over to the One Bourbon, One Chard, or One Beer podcast. And we mean roll. This is ALL SKATE … ALL SKATE, and this episode speaks (sings) to some of our (eh hem) misspent youths on roller skates. Congratulations also on the brand spankin’ new website, fellas!

A Wino Radar and Shoutout Combo (12:15)

Thanks to Polly Legendre for hooking us up with advanced viewings of the recently released Three Days of Glory. It was launched over the weekend (on 16 November) and is now available on iTunes.

This is a beautifully filmed documentary about the Three Days of Glory in Burgundy (Les Trois Glorieuses) and how family vintners are facing climate, land prices and other challenges.

There are some historical lessons to be learned here as well as some food for thought about money and greed, which is a recurring theme in the wine world, it seems.

No, we are not spoiling the ending. But you can get it now, right here: https://apple.co/2AI5uJt.

Now.

Big Shoutouts! (15:32)

Big thanks to Jordan Winery for sending us these bottles, and please check out the episode with their Director of Marketing and Communications, and author, Lisa Mattson.

We’re talking with Jordan Winery’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Lisa Mattson. She is the creative genius behind the latest “Despacito Embotellado” video as well as many award-winning films and videos. She’s also the author of “The Exes in My Glass.”
